Board approves enrichment contract, fiscal reports and proclamation in unanimous votes

At its Sept. 9 meeting, the Merced City School District board took several formal actions by unanimous vote.
After pulling item 8B (minutes) for separate consideration and asking staff to return a version that omits individual staff attendance listings, the board approved the remainder of the consent agenda by motion.
The board then approved a contract with Kids Discovery Station for the “Discovery on the Go” enrichment program for 2025–26, which the district described as a week-long, two-hours-per-day program serving roughly 8–10 children per session. The district staff stated the contract is not to exceed $151,250; Trustee Jeang moved the motion and Trustee McCutchen seconded it. The motion passed unanimously.
Assistant Superintendent Sergio Mendes presented the annual public hearing and recommended adoption of resolution E-01-2025-2026 certifying the sufficiency of standards-aligned textbooks and instructional materials in accordance with Education Code §60119 (the Williams Act process). The board opened and closed the public hearing (no callers or in-person protests) and adopted the resolution unanimously.
Chief Business Officer Linda Parker presented the 2024–25 unaudited actuals report and the appropriations limit recalculation and 2025–26 estimate; both items were approved by unanimous vote. Parker also presented a recommended application for exemption from the required expenditures for classroom teacher salaries; the board approved that application unanimously.
The board approved Superintendent Stocking’s resolution proclaiming National Hispanic Heritage Month from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15, 2025. Several trustees used board reports to highlight upcoming community events including back-to-school nights and a Sept. 25 town hall; the superintendent emphasized attendance-awareness activities and follow-up on public comments.
