Escondido library renovation nears completion; move‑back targeted for mid‑June

Furniture, fixtures and equipment will arrive on a staged schedule: book stacks are expected in early May and general furniture at the end of May, Robert said. He added that climate‑control contractors will begin work in April and expect about two months to finish, which would clear the final major contractor work in early June and allow staff time to move back into the main building.
“The roof will be 100% complete by end of day tomorrow,” Robert said. He also described a transition plan that is currently in the city manager’s office for approval and pledged to circulate the plan to trustees once it is approved.
Board members discussed logistics for the move, noting the likely need for a short closure for the physical move and a multiweek re‑opening ramp. The board scheduled a walkthrough of the site on April 9 for trustees to view progress before the council presentation and to help finalize move logistics.
The update also covered technology planning: library staff and IT conducted a walkthrough to identify Wi‑Fi access‑point placement for newly created smaller rooms, and IS staff will meet vendors next week to finalize equipment placement.
Next steps: the board will finalize and route the transition timeline through the city manager’s office and bring a slide deck to City Council as part of a larger boards‑and‑commissions update; trustees will preview the site at the April 9 walkthrough.
