Parks advisory committee approves new meeting time and moves on pickleball signage, rotation

The Parks & Recreation advisory committee approved several procedural and policy steps at its meeting.
The board opened by approving the minutes from the previous meeting and then voted to change the advisory committee's regular meeting time to 11:30 a.m. on the second Wednesday of each month, citing convenience for staff and some members. The motion to set the new meeting time was made, seconded and carried with no recorded opposition.
Members then moved on to park operations. After discussion of court congestion and etiquette at newly popular pickleball facilities, the committee voted to direct parks staff to investigate purchasing and installing rule signage and paddle (racket) holders at applicable courts. In a separate but related motion the board adopted a rotating or "winner-stays" system to improve access at peak hours; both measures were seconded and passed.
On lighting, board members asked staff to study costs and placement of additional poles and fixtures at several parks where current lighting does not support safe evening play. Staff said some lighting was retrofitted to domes as an interim measure and that cost estimates and placement recommendations will be provided for consideration in the next budget cycle.
The committee adjourned after scheduling follow-up reports on lighting costs and other requested items.
