Montezuma County approves Ute Mountain Roundup special-event permit and new liquor license for JR’s Country Store

The Montezuma County Board of County Commissioners approved two liquor-related applications on March 24, granting a special-events permit for the Ute Mountain Roundup and a new retail liquor license for JR’s Country Store.

Jerry Frizell, who handles liquor-license new applications and renewals for Montezuma County, told the board the Ute Mountain Roundup application included a letter from the sheriff’s office confirming security for the event. Frizell said the roundup will be held at 30100 Highway 160 in Cortez and that the board clarified the event dates as June 11–13 with hours from 4:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. The board moved, seconded, and approved the permit without further discussion.

Frizell also presented a new Colorado retail liquor license application for UPOP Holdings LLC, trade name JR’s Country Store, at 27963 Highway 184 in Dolores — the site of the former Skyline location. He said the submission was a complete, new application (not a license transfer) and that the operator does not plan interior remodeling. The license application met county requirements and the board moved, seconded, and approved the application.

The approvals were procedural votes taken during the consent and regular agenda; members voted in favor without recorded dissent. The board did not attach additional conditions to the approvals during the meeting.

The decisions mean the Ute Mountain Roundup can proceed with on-site alcohol service under the special-event permit and JR’s Country Store may begin retail liquor operations once state licensing steps are completed.
