Missoula County housing survey draws low response as staff brief commissioners'bound timetable for CDBG/HOME applications

Melissa Richards, Grants Administrator with Missoula County, told the All Community Council that the county's annual Housing and Community Development survey opened March 2 and closes Tuesday, March 31. "We currently only have 343 responses," Richards said, adding that last year the survey drew 702 responses.
Richards said the survey helps the Grants and Community Resources Department "gauge community interests and identify potential funding priorities," and that results will be presented at a Board of County Commissioners public meeting on Thursday, April 23 to solicit additional public feedback and project ideas eligible for Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) or HOME funding. She urged council members to push the survey to their neighborhoods and listservs and noted the county will open a pre-application process in June for three funding categories: affordable housing development and rehabilitation grants, economic development, and public and community facilities.
Richards advised councils that the department is gearing up for its application cycle and that more information will follow in the coming months. She provided the county contact (grants@missoulacounty.us) for council members who did not receive flyers or need distribution materials.
The immediate practical effect is an outreach request: county staff asked community council members to share the survey widely to improve response rates before the results are compiled for the April 23 commissioners'meeting. The county will publish guidance and pre-application details ahead of the June funding cycle.
