Dennis-Yarmouth projects 4.223% operating increase; warns of major cuts if town overrides fail

A presenter for the Dennis-Yarmouth Regional School District outlined the proposed 2026-27 operating budget, saying the school committee approved a March budget of $83,748,973 and settled on a 4.223% operating increase over last year. The presenter characterized the plan as a reduced-service budget that would not maintain current service levels without voter-approved overrides in both towns.

The presenter said 72 cents of every budgeted dollar goes to personnel, and that personnel costs are the principal pressure on the budget. Key cost drivers cited included an anticipated more-than-8% rise in health insurance, steady increases in out-of-district tuition and transportation, a projected 13% increase in utilities, and a 338% increase in McKinney-Vento transportation for unhoused students. Hourly wages for some staff are budgeted to rise by 7.47% to remain regionally competitive.
