Vandalia honors longtime building official Chris Mrino on retirement

Vandalia — The Vandalia City Council recognized Chris Mrino on March 16 for 35 years of service to the city and for his recent promotion to chief building official.
City Manager Mr. Alouse introduced Mrino with a biographical summary that noted Mrino joined the city in 1990 as an engineering technician, earned state certification as a Class 3 building inspector in 1991 and was promoted to chief building official in March 2024. "It's always significant when we recognize people with long years of service," Mr. Alouse said as the council presented photos and applause.
Mrino, joined at the podium by family and colleagues, thanked the council and staff. "It's been an honor, a privilege working with everybody here and all my favorite compadres," he said. The council announced Mrino's final day in the office will be Friday, April 3.
Council members offered personal remarks of gratitude and urged colleagues to join in celebrating Mrino's career. The recognition was followed by group photographs and applause; the meeting then continued with routine business.
