Vandalia — The Vandalia City Council on March 16 approved a package of procurement awards and emergency appropriations that city officials said will fund repairs, capital projects and daily operations for 2026.
City Manager Mr. Alouse told the council that bids for the 2026 asphaltic concrete purchase were opened Feb. 24 and that Valley Asphalt Corporation was the lowest responsive bidder at "$82 per ton for type 2 base asphalt and $88 per ton for type 1 surface asphalt." He recommended awarding Resolution 26‑R21 to Valley Asphalt Corporation, and the council approved the resolution on a 6–0 roll call vote.
Mr. Alouse also presented Resolution 26‑R22 to authorize a contract with Creative Countertops to renovate the kitchen at Fire Station 2. "The project is fully funded within the $50,000 budget in the 2026 CIP," he said, and reported the low bid as $45,657.67. The council approved the contract authorization unanimously.
