Teachers urge clearer communication, Wi‑Fi rebuild and joint EdTech/IT committees after survey shows wide dissatisfaction

Teachers and union representatives presented survey findings showing high dissatisfaction with the district’s technology systems and raised several operational proposals ranging from better communication protocols to committee restructuring.

The survey cited by presenters reported that 95% of respondents were dissatisfied with the district internet/network, 72% were frustrated with student devices, and 69% had problems with printers and copiers. Members described specific problems: intermittent Wi‑Fi when leaving classrooms, apps removed from devices without advance notice, frequent copier breakdowns and staff uncertainty about the app-approval process.

District staff confirmed a planned overhaul of the Wi‑Fi infrastructure during the summer and said the work was on the technology team’s top list. Teachers said the core problem is communication: when IT removes an app for security reasons, classroom staff often learn after the fact and are left without alternatives. Participants proposed two coordinated committees: a technical IT committee focused on infrastructure (led by the IT director) and a teacher-driven EdTech committee (led by the district’s ed-tech specialist) that would gather classroom needs and report back. Several members suggested building representatives report committee outcomes back to staff meetings.

The group asked staff to return options in future meetings, including bringing IT staff into discussion and tasking committees to address a forthcoming 'Chromebook cliff' in several years when devices will need replacement.
