YARMOUTH, Mass. — Public commenters and business representatives told the Madak/Madakis Utilization Committee on March 19 that the site could attract regional visitors if it were designed to host tournaments and indoor recreation.
At the start of the meeting two residents, Paul and Joona, introduced themselves and asked procedural questions about how the Select Board will decide the site. Later in discussion, committee members reported contact with the Cape Cod Baseball League about Hall‑of‑Fame storage and display needs; the League has reportedly sought space since leaving the Kennedy museum basement several years earlier.
Consultant Heather summarized feedback from a March 11 community meeting: organizers called for indoor practice space with netting for softball, noted demand for indoor leasable space and tournament potential, and asked that designs accommodate a range of field sizes. Senior softball organizers asked about creating two adjacent softball fields to support a larger September tournament; the committee encouraged those organizers to engage with the Recreation Commission and the Community Preservation Act (CPA) representatives to pursue funding.
Committee members said the concept alternatives should preserve flexibility for sports uses, but they cautioned that privately operated tournament facilities may limit community access. The consultant will carry these public priorities into the refined designs presented to the Select Board.
