Defender General says he was surprised to be summoned to testify on genetic privacy bill

Matt Valerio, Defender General, told the House Judiciary Committee on April 1 that he had been asked to return the next day to comment on S.181, described as a genetic privacy bill, and said he was unclear why he had been asked or whether the measure contains a criminal component.
Valerio said he received the notice by email shortly before the hearing and added, "Why does somebody want me to go testify about a genetic privacy bill? I no idea... I literally as I was coming over here I got this email." Committee members noted the bill has passed the House and is now in the Senate and suggested Senate chair Allison Clarkson could clarify details in committee the next day.
The committee did not consider S.181 during this session; Valerio is scheduled to return the following day to speak on that measure.
