Richland 02 staff presented Option B for the 2027–28 academic calendar on March 24, 2026, a draft developed by a district calendar committee and informed by employee and parent input.
Key features of Option B include a teacher return date on Tuesday, July 27 and a student start date of Wednesday, Aug. 4, allowing six days of teacher preparation. The calendar organizes instruction into 45‑day quarters followed by extended Fri–Mon weekends: Fridays designated as teacher workdays and the adjacent Monday observed as a holiday for students. Following winter break, teachers would return for a workday on Tuesday and students on Wednesday to ease the semester transition. The draft also proposes observing Presidents Day as a two-day break to break up the February–March instructional stretch.
Antetta Rogers, a teacher at Richland Northeast High School and a member of the calendar committee, described stakeholder feedback and said the committee narrowed 10 proposed calendars to five and then to two, with Option B preferred in the voting process. Trustees and the administration noted the process involved advisory groups, committee review and multiple stakeholder surveys.
The board received the presentation; no final vote on the calendar was recorded at the March 24 meeting. The committee and administration will provide the usual follow-up materials for board consideration before adoption.
