Merced board confirms hires, hears superintendent year‑start report and closes meeting

The Merced City School District Board of Education used its Aug. 12 meeting to introduce several new leaders, confirm staff appointments and hear a year‑start report from Superintendent Stocking.
Early in the meeting the board approved a settlement agreement related to Office of Administrative Hearings case number 2025030078 by a 4–0 vote with Trustee Jang absent. Later, Dr. Don Hubble introduced new hires and promotions: Cassandra Figueroa as director of fiscal services, Dr. Ken Cooper promoted to director of pupil services, and Jennifer Bolter named principal of John C. Fremont Elementary School. Several trustees and members of the public applauded the appointments.
In human resources business, the board approved the intent to employ two full‑time teachers on provisional internship permits for the 2025–26 school year (names provided in the packet). The motion to approve those provisional permits passed with Trustee Jeang absent.
Superintendent Stocking closed the meeting with an update on summer programs and community events. She said more than 1,277 students were served in TK–8 summer academy programs and that the district’s first‑ever districtwide back‑to‑school health and wellness fair drew about 2,000 attendees. Stocking apologized for a misstep in messaging related to screening materials at the district kickoff and reaffirmed the district’s three focus areas for the new year: sustaining positive relationships, prioritizing literacy and ensuring student safety.
