HIAC students promote peer mentoring and beach cleanup; organizer seeks city support for Holland’s first pay-per-view boxing event

During the public-comment period, Amanda Stoll, an 11th-grade member of the Holland Youth Advisory Council (HIAC), described PALS (Peer Assisted Listeners), a program that pairs high-school students with elementary and middle-school students to provide mentoring and social support. "It teaches the students...how to be more compassionate towards others," Stoll said, explaining the program’s structure and benefits.
Miles Wilkinson, a senior at West Ottawa and member of HIAC’s environmental committee, described community projects including annual tulip-planting in Centennial Park, a social-media video to raise pollution-awareness and plans for a Tunnel Park beach cleanup in about a month.
Malik Brandon presented a proposal asking the council for sponsorship and city support for a professional pro-am pay-per-view boxing event planned for May 16, 2026 at the Holland Civic Center. Brandon said the event would be professionally sanctioned, provide ringside medical coverage and AMR services, host regional athletes and create economic activity for hotels, restaurants and vendors. "This will be the first ever pay-per-view boxing event in the history of Holland," Brandon said, and he asked the council for permission to place strategic signage to boost attendance.
Mayor Box closed public comment after no further speakers came forward. Council did not take action on the boxing request during the meeting; Brandon’s request was presented for council awareness and possible follow-up.
