The commission preview included a second‑reading ordinance (8a) to amend the land development code for electronic message signs (EMCs). Community Development Director Kent Valia said the change would allow EMCs that match monument sign sizes for specific uses — religious assembly, municipal facilities and movie theaters — while excluding them from residential properties.
Valia said the ordinance includes a surrounding analysis and places limits on location (only on frontage), setback and landscaping requirements, luminescence limits and content restrictions intended to reduce proliferation and comply with traffic‑safety laws.
The ordinance had already passed first reading, and staff presented it as a second reading for final consideration at the upcoming Wednesday meeting.
