The Jefferson Elementary School District Board of Trustees voted to schedule a board governance workshop in January or February 2026 focused on budget and facilities advisory committee education and board self-evaluation.
Superintendent Mulik outlined facilitation options: engage an outside facilitator (CSBA's consultants or private consultants previously used), have Lynette Hodson (who currently facilitates the superintendent’s budget and facilities advisory committee) extend her contract to facilitate the board workshop, or have Superintendent Mulik facilitate portions of the session. Trustees debated the trade-offs: some argued a neutral outside facilitator could offer independence and expertise, while others favored an in-house approach because the superintendent already knows board priorities and external consultants require preparatory calls.
Trustees suggested prioritizing a midyear study session that would educate the full board about ongoing budget and long-term planning work, review progress on curriculum initiatives such as the Universal Design for Learning framework, and examine how changes to faculty schedules and Wednesday collaboration times are affecting instruction and staffing. Several trustees said a focused education session would help trustees give more informed feedback to the advisory committee and align board and committee efforts before key budget decisions are made.
After discussion a trustee moved and the board approved a motion to schedule the January–February 2026 governance workshop with a focus on budget and facilities and to ask Lynette Hodson to facilitate; Superintendent Mulik may facilitate board self-evaluation and mission/goals work. The motion passed unanimously.
