The approval capped a contested public discussion. Several speakers used the contract item to press for broader transparency and accountability. Dr. Barza, a longtime community member, said the district should make an apology to Dr. Allison Tintiango Kubales as public as prior statements had been. "This apology should not be made quietly, but should be as public as the recent apology to those few individuals who made the false and defamatory allegations," Dr. Barza said during public comment.
Other public commenters raised concerns about school resource officer (SRO) practices and questioned when students were cited by police on campus without parents present. One speaker asked, "How many times this year were you aware of students being cited on campus by our SROs for things that were happening off campus?" and pressed the superintendent to describe follow-up actions.
Trustees acknowledged the concerns raised during public comment while emphasizing a need to balance personnel decisions with district operations. Trustee Navaro said the board had discussed SRO procedures in closed session and requested parents with specific citation details to provide them so the district could investigate. Trustee Dodge, who supported the renewal, noted community accomplishments during the superintendent's first year and said she supported continuing the district's leadership stability.
The board voted to approve the contract amendment. The motion carried; trustees indicated support during the public vote and the chair announced the motion passed.
