Shelley McLaclin told the council Pathfinders for Autism — which the proclamation notes was established in 2000 by parents of children with autism — offers trainings, family events and community outreach. “We do workshops and trainings. We do family fun events … and everything that we do for families is free of charge,” McLaclin said.
McLaclin said Pathfinders trains law‑enforcement officers on how to interact with autistic children and adults during stops and community encounters, and that the organization’s programs are open to people with a range of developmental disabilities.
The council’s proclamation saluted Pathfinders for Autism and encouraged residents to “recognize, celebrate, and support the abilities, achievements, and contributions of individuals with developmental disabilities.” The presentation concluded with the council formally handing the proclamation to McLaclin, who thanked the council for the recognition.
