County staff outlined a package of items to support children and youth with special healthcare needs, saying the county received $31,252 in federal funds for a project that pairs a summit with a sensory‑trail build.
Staff said roughly $30,000 of the funds is earmarked for the project and the remainder covers fringe and personnel costs. They described an educational summit to bring together providers, educators and families and a sensory 'tree house' feature with tactile elements to be built under contract with Eric Jones Studios. The county is working with multiple partners, including the Office of Planning, New York State Parks and a local town referenced in the packet as 'Canadia,' while a final site for the sensory trail has not yet been selected.
A facility‑use agreement with Alfred University for the summit and a renewal of the main children and youth with special healthcare needs grant were presented; staff said approvals will be sought at the committee’s next session because no quorum was present on March 19.
Committee members asked whether the grant amount had changed from prior years; staff said funding is flat for the renewal.
