Anita Madison, Director of the Office for the Aging, told the Allegany County Human Services Committee on March 19 that her office logged 1,345 hours of housekeeper/chore in‑home care in January, 536.5 homemaker/personal‑care hours and 189.5 case management hours.
Madison said the office’s volunteer tax program had completed 270 returns and, as of March 16, had returned $360,495 in straight refunds to older adults in Allegany County. The program has provided 616 appointments so far this season, with roughly 70 appointments remaining, and the volunteer corps has grown from nine to 13 this year, Madison said.
Madison also announced the county’s senior picnic is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 4, with an extreme‑weather date of Wednesday, Aug. 5, and invited volunteers and department staff to help run the event.
Because the committee lacked a quorum, members did not vote on any agenda items; Madison said the office will seek formal approvals at the committee’s special session on Wednesday.
Madison’s figures were presented as part of the Office for the Aging monthly report and were not contested during the meeting. The tax program figures are totals reported by staff; the committee was not asked to act on funding at this session and formal approvals are planned for the reconvened meeting.
