Caddo Parish officials report traps and recent captures as they tackle wild hogs, barking dogs and mosquito season

Director Samuels said the parish purchased and deployed a spear-style trap with remote trigger capability and that trapping has occurred multiple times recently. He reported captures of about seven and eight animals on different operations over the past month and said one of the animals in the most recent sounder was a roughly 350-pound male. Samuels said trapping requires feeding and baiting the animals, and a trap can take a week or two to draw a sounder before it is triggered.
Commissioners asked that Animal Control collect and publish capture data so the parish can communicate measurable progress to residents and manage potential public-liability concerns. Samuels said he has been in contact with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, which is prioritizing responses across multiple locations, and that the parish is assisting in the interim.
On domestic animal complaints, Samuels said additional veterinarian support is helping Animal Control process adoptions more quickly; commissioners asked staff to publicize contact procedures and guidance on the parish website so residents know how to report issues. Staff also confirmed that mosquito spraying was delayed by a cold snap but was expected to begin by the weekend with alerts sent through the parish's notification system.
Director Samuels said he will continue to update the commission as more trapping data and outcomes become available.
