Commissioner urges residents to secure homes after recent burglaries in Forest Park

At the Aug. 8 meeting of the Village of Forest Park council, Commissioner Nero told colleagues and residents that several recent burglaries occurred within a concentrated area of the village and urged personal security measures.
"There was a several home invasions in the Village of Forest Park... these break-ins occurred in a very included area of town within blocks of each other literally within blocks of each other," Commissioner Nero said, later acknowledging Chief Gross corrected the phrase and identifying the incidents as burglaries. Chief Gross told the council the incidents involved theft of personal property.
Commissioner Nero recommended residents make themselves "a hard target" by locking doors, improving lighting, installing cameras and securing valuables. He noted Forest Park detectives are investigating and suggested the village put information out to residents about precautions.
No formal vote or new public-safety ordinance was taken; commissioners emphasized awareness and collaboration with the police department while investigations continue.
