Commissioners debate limit on amplified live music while approving entertainment-license changes

The Village of Forest Park council on Aug. 8 approved an amendment to the liquor code to formalize patio, beer garden and entertainment licensing, but the session included a focused debate over a proposed monthly limit on amplified live music.
Commissioner Maxam asked whether the council would consider removing the line that reads "no more than one time per calendar month for Amplified live entertainment," arguing that businesses might need multiple events in a month. "I have a question I'm wondering if any of the other um council members would be open to taking out the line that says no more than one time per calendar month for Amplified live entertainment," Maxam said during discussion.
Commissioner Burns responded by urging caution: "We are just starting to let Amplified music out right the patios ... I think we should walk before we start running with this and give it a shot so we don't have bans out there every night and then we're going to get complaints." Commissioner Nero echoed Burns, saying the current approach gives a check and balance and can be revisited later.
After discussion the council moved, seconded and approved Ordinance 0-32-22 to amend the liquor code; the transcript records roll-call ayes. Council members said they expect to monitor the initial rollout of entertainment licenses and revisit the rules if adjustments are warranted.
The ordinance as approved remains the village's operative text until the council votes on any change; no immediate amendment to remove the monthly amplified-music line was passed at the meeting.
