Rocklin Unified administrators presented proposed new high‑school electives for the 2025‑26 school year and outlined plans to expand dual‑enrollment offerings.
Associate Superintendent Marty Flowers introduced a sports‑psychology elective developed by a Rocklin High teacher (Mr. Bergman) and discussed its focus on performance, mental‑health strategies and life skills. Trustees asked about age‑eligibility and prerequisites; administrators recommended the course for sophomores and above and noted credentialing will follow social‑studies requirements if the course moves toward A‑G status.
Flowers also described a proposed dual‑enrollment Business 159 pilot at Victory High School, where teachers would be selected through an interview process and Sierra College would provide concurrent‑enrollment credit if requirements are met. "The goal would be that every kid that graduates from Victory High School would complete this," Flowers said as an aspirational target for the pilot pathway.
The board also heard about an Administration of Justice 50 course offered by Chief Rustin Banks (who teaches the class at Plaster High School), which is an introduction to law‑enforcement concepts and could become part of a pathway when paired with existing forensics offerings at Whitney High.
Trustees highlighted concerns about potentially sensitive topics in the sports‑psychology syllabus (gender and relationship topics cited from APA standards) and asked staff to clarify whether those items are unit examples or required lesson content. Administration said sensitive‑topics templates and teacher training are already in place and staff will provide additional detail at the next meeting.
No final course adoptions were approved at this meeting; staff said a formal adoption item will return at the next board meeting with finalized descriptions, credentialing information and any A‑G pathway requests.
