Willard staff seek replacements for aging jet-vac, mowers and call for sewer-lagoon dredging

During the Oct. 20 work session, maintenance staff requested funding to replace a 2003 jet vac truck used for water and sewer responses, describing it as a “very important” but aging piece of equipment that has required repeated repairs. The minutes say the jet vac is used whenever there is a water or sewer issue and that replacement is a priority.
Staff also requested a new cemetery mower and said they are looking at a Grasshopper model because of its rear-discharge design. For reservoir-bank mowing, staff recommended purchasing a replacement mower and moving the current mower to the Water Plant.
On sewer maintenance, staff said the sewer lagoon should be dredged, noting approximately four to five feet of material has accumulated at the bottom. The minutes record that staff identified dredging as a necessary maintenance item.
Other water-related items noted included rollover of Epanel projects for the bulk water station and the east clarifier to a future year, and an existing agreement for a Northern Ohio Rural Water connection at U.S. Route 224 under which the city would pay materials while the partner provides labor.
Staff asked for a follow-up work session to discuss water rates and related issues in more detail.
