Residents urge council to investigate policing complaint and out-of-state license-plate issue

During citizens time at the Jan. 12 meeting, two residents raised concerns for council attention.
Melvin Flight identified himself as a Franklin resident and alleged corruption and racially disparate treatment by the Franklin Police Department, saying he was harassed while walking in his neighborhood and that he will file a complaint against the department and the officer involved. The mayor offered that Mr. Flight may leave contact information with the chief at the back of the room.
Gary Wise (also referenced later as Mr. Weiss) of 205 Willis Road said he had neighbors living in his area with North Carolina license plates and asked whether the city has authority to address vehicles bearing out-of-state plates. The mayor asked whether the "ward two" representative had followed up on Mr. Wise's concerns and staff indicated they could accept information and follow up.
Council did not take formal action on either item during the meeting but staff invited the speakers to leave contact details with the chief or city staff for follow-up.
