Deputy County Attorney Lex Taylor told the board that the county's primary wellhead protection zone will be changed to the state's 500-foot standard while retaining a 1,000-foot secondary zone; staff framed the amendment as a compliance and best-practices update intended to ensure coordination with the regional water-management district.
Why it matters: The change clarifies development restrictions near public potable-water wellheads and reduces legal ambiguity between county and state standards. Planning staff said they had reviewed the changes with the Planning and Zoning Agency and the PZA found the baseline favorable.
The board voted 5-0 to transmit the amendment to the state for review.
