Willard Schools Superintendent Jeff Ritz to retire and run for Huron County commissioner

Jeff Ritz, superintendent of Willard City Schools, told the Willard City Council on Feb. 17 that he will retire from the district in 41 days and plans to run for Huron County Commissioner. Ritz said he intends to remain in Willard with his wife and expressed appreciation "for the relationship with Council over the years."
Ritz told Council he has attended township meetings around the county and heard persistent concerns about emergency medical services, property tax reform, wind turbines and local infrastructure. He said his campaign would seek to foster partnerships between the county and its townships and cities to address those issues.
Councilmembers thanked Ritz for his service. Councilperson Babcock said he had the Council's support and others offered their appreciation for Ritz's work with the schools and the city. The Council did not take any formal action related to Ritz's announcement during the meeting.
The meeting adjourned after routine business; Council also approved minutes and other reports on the Feb. 17 agenda.
