Willard to spend $860,783 on police station repairs; City Hall to accommodate construction

The City Manager told the Willard City Council on Jan. 5 that the Police Station has extensive interior cracking and uneven doors and requires structural repairs. The city hired contractor Janotta & Herner to perform the work; the project cost is $860,783 and is scheduled to begin next Monday.
Janotta & Herner’s assessment found that interior walls lacked a solid foundation; repairs will include excavating to about three feet beneath interior walls to compact and refill the foundation material. Because of construction, the Police Department will share space in City Hall for an estimated four months. The city expects reduced parking and fenced construction zones during working hours; council confirmed parking restrictions will apply only while crews are working.
Janotta & Herner were also asked to appear before council to discuss proposed façade repairs for City Hall at the next meeting or the first meeting in February. The City Manager said the Police Station exterior walls are sound and the work is focused on interior wall foundations and finishes.
Council did not vote on a contract during the Jan. 5 meeting but recorded the project cost and the planned start date; further details and schedule were expected at a future meeting when Janotta & Herner present their plans.
