During the same portion of the meeting the public questioned how board materials and attachments are shared; administration said attachments are provided in draft to board members 48 hours before meetings and offered to provide copies to residents who requested them.
The meeting also featured an extended discussion about a drafted AI policy. A public commenter raised concerns that artificial intelligence can "hinder the ability for you to critically think"; Dr Al delli summarized elements of the draft policy, saying it lists indicators, prescribes that staff must inform students when AI use is permitted, and envisions an AI coordinator role and an AI plan to protect teaching and learning.
Separately, the board addressed policy 4322 (electronic communications by staff). Board members voted on routine personnel and finance items and then moved to table policy 4322 after a public question about truncated text in the draft. A roll-call motion to table 4322 carried; minutes show the board agreed to bring clarified language back for review.
What it means: the district is balancing staffing shortages and instructional continuity with concerns about pedagogy and oversight. Administration characterized virtual certified instruction as a stopgap for hard-to-fill certified positions and said the AI policy is intended to set clear boundaries for staff and student use.
Next steps: administration said it will revise the draft 4322 language and return it for further consideration and will continue work on implementing AI guidelines and communication protocols for use of proximity learning.
