Morris School District board approves grouped motions, moves $1 million from extraordinary aid into current budget

The Morris School District Board of Education, meeting Nov. 24, approved a series of grouped agenda motions covering minutes, policy, educational matters, pupil services, human resources and business items and voted to move $1,000,000 in prior-year extraordinary aid into the district's current 2024–25 budget.

The board conducted roll-call votes on consolidated motion blocks. The minutes (motions 1–2), policy motions (1–4), educational matters (motions 1–13), pupil services (motions 1–4), and human resources (motions 1–22) were approved in roll-call votes. Business matters (motions 1–18, including a revised motion 5) also passed. Officials recorded a small number of abstentions: Mrs. Cole abstained on educational motion 13; an abstention appeared on pupil-services motion 1; Mr. Smith and one other member abstained on business motion 5.

Linda, speaking in the finance update, described the $1,000,000 appropriation as a transfer of prior-year extraordinary aid to cover several unbudgeted items this year. "We're recommending appropriating this money from a prior year's extraordinary aid funds into the current budget," she said, explaining the move is to address unanticipated costs.

Finance and grants were central to the business discussion. The Morris Educational Foundation contributed a set of grants totaling more than $20,000 that were listed under educational matters motion 13. Finance reporting also noted continued carryover accounting for ESSA and IDEA grants and an end-of-October consultant report on capital projects that has been passed to the new buildings-and-grounds director.

Board members emphasized routine oversight and the administrative work needed to implement the items approved. The meeting recorded the standard procedural approval language for each block and closed with an adjournment motion.
