Superintendent outlines literacy-focused goals, highlights summer programs and names county Teacher of the Year nominee

Dr. Guccio, superintendent of the Egg Harbor Township School District, told the board the district’s goals for 2025–26 will prioritize student achievement with a particular focus on literacy, along with climate and culture and stronger stakeholder partnerships.
The superintendent opened by praising the district’s ESY (extended school year) program and summer activities, saying students participated in arts, outdoor events and community visits and that staff worked to “build relationships and keep them focused on learning.” He described the goals as centered on literacy instruction, universal screening and a multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) to identify and address student needs.
Why it matters: The district plans to front-load professional development and strengthen common assessments and professional learning teams so teachers can analyze data and respond with tiered interventions. Dr. Guccio said the district will also emphasize behavior expectations, social-emotional learning and digital citizenship, including AI literacy.
“We want Egg Harbor Township Schools to be the place where kids want to be each and every day,” Dr. Guccio said, adding that the district will roll out a unified communications platform in September to coordinate messaging across its eight schools.
Board action and hires: During the meeting the board approved routine finance, curriculum and personnel items. Dr. Guccio introduced multiple new hires, including nine contracted bus drivers and a range of custodial, food-service and teaching staff. The board welcomed the new employees by name and gave applause as they were introduced.
Recognition: Dr. Guccio also announced that Christa Delaney, a high school science teacher, was named Atlantic County Teacher of the Year and is a candidate for state Teacher of the Year. “We will celebrate this proud moment,” he said.
What’s next: The district will continue to present the goals to staff during professional development sessions in the days before school and will provide ongoing public updates through the curriculum and full-board reports.
