City Administrator Mr. Creech told the council on April 6 that the city needs to replace a rotten wood patio at the Westfield Center with exposed-aggregate concrete and to recondition and extend the memorial paver area at the Veterans Memorial Library. The work was presented as two proposals from contractor Savone.
Mr. Creech said the library’s memorial pavers must be removed and reinstalled delicately and that a new concrete "ribbon" will be poured around the reconditioned pavers; a deteriorated wall cap in front of the flags will also be replaced to match the new exposed-aggregate finish. Staff said the work needs to be completed in time for the Memorial Day dedication.
Council moved, supported and approved the work unanimously; staff acknowledged the projects are a significant expense but said they will provide long-term durability and a finished appearance.
