Julie Edwards, director of strategic educational options, said the cohort will begin with a college success course and be offered a planned sequence of transferable classes so participating students could earn 24–45 college credits by graduation. Cabrillo College representatives described dedicated supports — embedded tutors, a Cabrillo monitoring coordinator and student tracking — intended to lift completion rates and reduce barriers for first‑generation students.
Why it matters: Dual‑enrollment and early‑college programs have been shown to boost college persistence and completion; district officials said the program targets underrepresented students and aims to shorten time to degree and lower college costs. PV Advance classes will take place during the school day so students can remain engaged in extracurriculars.
Implementation and scale: The pilot cohort will be monitored closely; district and college staff plan to expand dual‑enrollment options on the PV High campus next year. The board was told the agreements are included in the CCAP interagency arrangement under consideration and that additional sections could become available to other PV High students after the pilot launch.
