Juana Blanco, a district family engagement specialist, and Jasmine Velasco, a family engagement specialist who provided Spanish translation, described the selection process and the applicant pool.
Blanco told attendees the district removed duplicate submissions and applicants who said they could not commit to attending all meetings, leaving 84 names to choose from. The district communications officer, Juliet Funes, was named as the staff member who would enter the 84 names into a virtual wheel to make random selections, which staff said was intended "to ensure fairness." Jasmine Velasco repeated the process in Spanish for Spanish-speaking attendees.
The six parents and guardians chosen were announced as: Alma Andrade; Claudia Vargas; Cynthia Zavala; Kisha W.; Ana Paola Pineda Santana; and Lorena Perez. The three alternates named were Marlin; Gloria Melda Garceda Lf3pez; and Elizabeth Jimenez. Staff said the business services team will contact all selected members and alternates by Tuesday, Aug. 26 (year not specified) with details and next steps.
Blanco invited those who applied but were not selected to continue following the process on the district website and to watch committee meetings online; staff said meetings will be recorded and posted for public viewing. The event concluded with brief closing remarks in Spanish.
