Staff said recorded U‑turn incidents increased from 110 in January to 149 in February and that insufficient‑funds collections rose from $12,552.25 to $16,983, an increase of $4,440.75. In response, staff said they are continuing public education via social media, working with marketing and preparing an action plan on options to reduce U‑turns.
On signage, staff said the traffic department has issued a work order and coordinated with TxDOT/Text to install 'empty truck' signs on I‑69. The signs are scheduled to be installed Sunday, March 29, and the project cost is $25,000. Staff said legal and traffic reviews delayed final approval but that the project is now scheduled.
What’s next: staff offered to return with an options paper on U‑turn reductions and proposed enforcement or toll‑rate changes, and to present implementation options to the committee at a future meeting.
