The Santa Fe Springs City Council reconvened after a closed-session briefing on anticipated litigation and approved a 12-item consent calendar (items 5–16) in a motion by Mayor Pro Tem Tim Rodriguez, seconded by Council Member Martin. Members present voted in favor by voice; Council Member Rounds was noted as absent during closed session.
The council’s closed-session announcement cited anticipated litigation under Government Code section 54956.9; City Attorney reported the council "received a briefing from staff," provided feedback and took no final action. The city attorney also noted Council Member Mora arrived during the closed session.
Council members spent a substantial portion of remarks acknowledging recent community events and raising operational concerns. Multiple council members praised the "Every 15 Minutes" student safety program and the city’s Easter and Mayor’s prayer events; staff were commended for event planning and community engagement.
On parks, several members said local families have reported difficulty using fields informally because outside organizations frequently reserve space. Council Member Martin and Council Member Mora urged staff to examine field-use rules and the distribution of reserved time to prioritize resident access. City Manager Will Badia said staff could look into modifying the field-use policy and return recommendations to the council.
Council members also discussed outreach to potential sponsors (for example, rideshare companies) to support safe-transport messaging at prom and other youth events. The council reported Community Programs, Inc., the city’s foundation, raised about $40,000 this year toward a $100,000 fundraising goal to support youth, seniors and families.
The council adjourned at 6:42 p.m.
