Apache Junction board approves fundraising delegation, clinical partnership, food truck purchase and routine policies

The Apache Junction Unified School District governing board approved a slate of routine actions at its Sept. 24, 2024 meeting, including delegation of fundraising approvals to site principals, a clinical affiliation with A.T. Still University, a partnership agreement with the State of Arizona Department of Homeland Security, and the purchase of a refrigerated food-delivery van.
On fundraising, the board voted to approve the district's 2024'25 fundraising list and to delegate day-to-day approval of routine fundraisers to site principals working with the business office; the board retained authority to approve newly chartered clubs. Mrs Salazar explained schools submitted requests and the delegated authority is intended to streamline approvals.
The board approved a clinical affiliation agreement with A.T. Still University Arizona School of Health Sciences to host speech-pathology students for supervised clinical hours; presenters said each intern will complete roughly 20 hours in the fall and 40 hours in the spring, with the district's licensed SLPs supervising students.
The board also approved a reformatted agreement with the State of Arizona Department of Homeland Security that provides software and partnership benefits to the district, and it passed a resolution designating Legendary Teacher Day for Sept. 26.
On nutrition services, the board approved the purchase of a refrigerated delivery van from Santan Ford to be paid from the Food Service fund (Fund 510). The meeting record shows the purchase amount read aloud in the agenda as "$78,79 94 cents"; the transcript format is unclear. The food-services director said the new van is more energy efficient and will serve as a refrigerated delivery vehicle from the high-school kitchen to other campus sites.
Other approved items included a teacher-attendance incentive (with an amendment making the payments retroactive to the first quarter), a slate of policy revisions on visitors, nutrition, mandatory reporting, open enrollment and student records, and a lease of the old Four Peaks Elementary building (approved with one abstention). The board also tabled a proposed board self-evaluation tool for further review at a work session and then convened into executive session under Arizona statutes for personnel and legal matters.
