Fanwood officials report new coffee lease, Corono Square permit progress and construction delays

Borough staff reported several downtown development updates: a lease has been signed for a coffee shop to occupy a space on South Avenue, the Corono Square project has applied for footings and foundation permits and is working through utility relocations and access approvals, and other construction sites are progressing subject to winter weather.
“One of our final spaces on South Avenue…they have signed a lease for 1874 coffee shop,” Liz said, noting the owner of the Fanwood Clipper owns the building and expects a relatively quick fit‑out with a target around St. Patrick’s Day.
Liz said Corono Square has submitted footing and foundation permit applications and has made progress on DOT access approvals; building A includes a restaurant and the team is planning temporary relocation of a liquor store before work on building B can proceed. She cautioned that winter conditions and freezing temperatures slow concrete work and make exact timelines uncertain.
Council members welcomed the reports and noted other downtown activity, including occupancy at Soho and movement on affordable units where five of nine affordable units have been filled.
