Planning staffer Colton summarized the year’s work, saying the commission and development review team reviewed about 60 items in 2025, with the majority of activity related to site plan and special use reviews. “There were 60 different items that, between planning staff, the development review team and yourselves, the Planning Commission reviewed,” Colton said, walking commissioners through charts on monthly distribution and types of reviews.
Colton highlighted housing approvals and special-area projects: he said the city needs nearly 9,000 new housing units by 2045 and reported 261 units were approved in the past year, with a large share coming from a planned-unit development off 52nd Street; he also described progress on the City Center project, including buried utility lines and a pedestrian bridge.
The presentation covered outreach and policy work: staff summarized adoption of accessory dwelling unit (ADU) allowances (approved by the commission in 2024 and adopted in 2025), mailings to commercial property owners as outreach, and survey results collected at a bridge opening that showed nearly a quarter of respondents walked local trails daily and 74% used them at least weekly.
A motion to accept the annual report was made, seconded and approved by roll call. The Development Review Team had recommended the commission accept the report; staff said they would be available for follow-up questions.
Next steps: The accepted report will remain part of the commission and staff record and staff remains available to answer commissioner and public questions about specific items referenced in the report.
