The Board of Education honored two departing trustees with prolonged recognition and personal remarks.
The board presented Dr. Jose Lalas with an engraved guitar and thanked him for nearly 29 years of service to the Corona-Norco Unified School District. Speakers praised his advocacy for equity, dual-language programs and collaboration with employee associations; Dr. Lalas thanked the community and reflected on the evolution of district practice during his tenure.
Bill Pollock was recognized for eight years on the board. Colleagues highlighted his advocacy for education-based athletics, student mental health and athletic safety; Pollock and other speakers recounted events and site visits and expressed gratitude to family and supporters. Pollock gave extended farewell remarks about district accomplishments and his intention to remain involved as a volunteer and clinician for student-athletes.
Both recognitions drew sustained applause and were followed by photographs and short remarks from board colleagues and community members.
