Board tables decision on temporary modular home request after residents raise concerns

Madison County supervisors on April 6 tabled action on a hardship request to place a temporary modular dwelling at 482 Gluckstadt Road after residents signed to oppose the request and the district supervisor asked for more input.

The request was presented as a hardship application by staff; under county rules applicants may request temporary placement of a modular or manufactured home when a site-built residence is being rebuilt or repaired. Supervisor Brandon moved to table the item so the district supervisor (Trey) could participate at the next meeting; the motion carried by voice vote.

One local resident, Martha Ann Smith, addressed the board and said she opposed approval of a fabricated home on the property and asked for the board to consider neighborhood concerns. The board offered to accept written materials from the signatories and invited them to appear at the next meeting when the district supervisor is present.

Board members instructed staff to hold the item on the agenda for the April 20 board meeting and to distribute submitted letters to supervisors and county counsel ahead of that meeting. No final decision was made at the April 6 session.
