Federal funding update: county lobbyist reports $25M appropriated over recent years, seeks BUILD planning grant for West County Line Road

A Butler Snow representative briefed the Madison County Board of Supervisors on April 6 about the county’s recent federal appropriations and pending grant requests.

The presenter told the board the county had secured roughly $25 million in appropriations across several recent fiscal years: $18 million usable for a transport system, $3 million dedicated to a Parkway Crossing element, and $4 million for stormwater and wastewater under Section 219. He also said the county has an authorization under the Water Resources Development Act to spend up to $24 million for stormwater/wastewater projects and that staff are seeking to increase that authorization by $10 million (to $34 million).

On grants, the presenter said the county submitted a $5 million BUILD planning grant application to the U.S. Department of Transportation for planning and design of widening West County Line Road; decision timing was expected in June. He said the county will also seek $9 million in energy-and-water appropriations tied to stormwater/wastewater needs and will pursue further appropriations for the Upper Bear Creek Watershed flooding project (roughly $25 million anticipated under NRCS pending final approvals).

Board members praised the lobbying effort and noted the county’s congressional delegation has been supportive, referencing two U.S. senators and multiple congressmen who have provided letters of support and assistance with the transportation and appropriations process.

The update was informational; no formal board action was required beyond continued staff follow-up and delegation outreach.
