Elkhart council approves Pacific Street vacation, advances several ordinances and a settlement resolution

Elkhart — At its April 6 meeting the Elkhart City Council unanimously approved proposed ordinance 26-11, an ordinance vacating a portion of Pacific Street within the city, and processed multiple other legislative items on the agenda.

Ordinance 26-11: Councilman Crabtree moved and Councilman Fish seconded adoption on second and third reading. Project representative Bob Heayen explained the vacation involves a 10-foot strip along Jackson Boulevard to correct a previous omission; no public comments were offered. The council approved the ordinance by recorded vote (reported as passing 9–0).

Other items: The council read by title several additional ordinances including 26-13 (amendment to the Elkhart rental inspection ordinance), 26-14 (an $8,415 transfer from the aviation fund), 26-15 (appropriation for an abatement easement acquisition at the Elkhart Municipal Airport, $168,300 cited in the reading), and 26-16 (creation of a capital highway overpass fund). These were placed on future readings or assigned to committee as indicated on the agenda.

Resolution 26-R10: The council considered and adopted resolution 26-R10, a settlement agreement authorizing the mayor to execute necessary documents; the resolution was adopted by roll call vote.

Procedural notes: Where required, clerk Melody conducted roll call votes. Several items were processed without public comment; the council closed a vacation hearing on Oakland Avenue with no speakers.
