City staff told the Human Relations Commission the Office of Equity, Access & Inclusion is partnering with the Sunnyvale Library and a local nonprofit to offer a SOJI 101 allyship training intended to introduce sexual-orientation and gender-identity concepts and practical allyship skills.
The training is scheduled for Tuesday, March 17, from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. in the Sunnyvale Library program room. Staff said registration is required through the Sunnyvale Unity website and that the session will be in person only with limited capacity; staff noted 14 people had registered at one point and the room capacity is about 30, with a goal of exceeding 25 attendees.
On accessibility, staff said they would explore live translation via Wordly and provide on-screen closed captioning; a staff member said, "I am happy to explore using Wordly." Child care was not planned for the session but staff said they would consider options for future events. Staff asked commissioners to help publicize the training within their networks.
The commission did not take action on the item; the presentation concluded with staff requesting an update from commissioners on outreach efforts.
