SC Ready science review: The subcommittee reviewed a technical analysis conducted by K–12 Assessment Solutions at the University of Georgia. The reviewer found the grade 4 and grade 6 blueprints are generally aligned with state standards and largely appropriate in depth of knowledge (DOK), though a small number of items were flagged for potential misalignment or DOK recalculation. Recommendations included reviewing flagged items, strengthening DOK assignment and adding items near cut scores to improve classification precision. Military‑connected students: The subcommittee received the 2026 report on military‑connected students (required by Act 289 of 2014). Staff reported 18,824 identified military‑connected students, with roughly 74% concentrated in 10 districts; the report found military‑connected students outperformed non‑military peers across tested subjects. Recommendations included consistent data collection at enrollment, continued collaboration with the Department of Education to improve military student data, and exploring postsecondary partnerships to support transitions. Members asked staff to clarify whether postsecondary recommendations conflate different populations (K–12 dependents versus veteran students); staff said the primary report focus is K–12 and they will seek clarifying language.
Industry certifications: The Department of Education submitted 19 new industry certifications for career‑readiness accountability. The subcommittee debated process and technical concerns and voted unanimously to defer action on the six credentials staff had flagged, asking technical advisory committees to review them and to return recommendations at the next meeting.
The subcommittee’s actions aim to refine assessment quality, improve data practices for special populations, and ensure credential quality before accountability counting.
