Jason Burke, Lafayette City building commissioner, told the board it is recommending a $36,900 contract with Poisel Construction to demolish the former Hannah Center at 1201 North 18th so the site can be developed for a Right Steps daycare center.
Burke said the city solicited three bids: Poisel Construction at $36,900, Crawl Earthwork at $41,500, and Snyder Construction withdrew. "This contract with Poisel is in the amount of $36,900, and we are recommending your approval," he said. The board moved, seconded and approved the contract by voice vote.
Following the contract approval, city staff recommended — and the board approved — an immediate notice to proceed to Poisel Construction so demolition can begin. The board recorded the votes by voice; no individual roll-call tallies were provided.
The action clears the parcel for the Right Steps daycare project; the meeting did not include additional details about the daycare's timeline, funding or construction schedule. The item was presented during the engineering/new business portion of the agenda and passed without further questions.
The meeting then moved on to other business and later adjourned.
