Clackamas County to serve as cooperating agency in BLM Western Oregon plan; Commissioners pick representatives

Clackamas County commissioners agreed April 7 to participate as a cooperating agency in the Bureau of Land Management’s revision of the Western Oregon Resource Management Plan and designated county representatives to the process.
Cute Sedig, temporarily assigned to the county administrator’s office, told the board the memorandum of understanding would allow Clackamas County to participate early in the BLM’s planning process for roughly 90,000 acres of federal lands within the county. Sedig said participation carries no cost and "does not give the county decision‑making authority and it does not commit the county to any positions."
Commissioners discussed the benefits of having a single county point of contact. Commissioner Helm moved to nominate Commissioner West as the county’s cooperating‑agency representative; the motion passed 4–0. Commissioners then nominated Chair Roberts as the alternate representative; that motion also passed unanimously. Staff said the designation will be placed on the board’s April 9 consent agenda for final administrative approval.
The memorandum of understanding will allow county staff and the board’s designated representatives to bring local priorities and community perspectives into the BLM planning process as it develops.
