Public Works Director Michael Irwin told commissioners the item is largely a rewrite of an existing document to clarify legal language and continue an annual price increase policy. He said the landfill “needs roughly $3 million for an expansion” and estimated remaining airspace at about two years under current volumes, though members noted prior conversations that suggested three years.
Irwin said staff is pursuing near‑term steps including installing measuring wells and removing trees that could be repurposed as firewood for residents. Commissioners discussed how higher fees could shift illegal dumping into the county’s public lands if raised too quickly, but supported the update as necessary to cover operating and capital needs. The board moved the resolution and it passed unanimously.
