Wauconda limits EV parking at village chargers to three hours

The Wauconda Village Board approved an ordinance amending village code to limit parking in village-owned electric-vehicle charging spaces to three hours and to prohibit overnight parking.
A staff presenter told the board the change responds to charger availability concerns: “we have an average parking time session time at the electric vehicle charges of about six hours and only three of those hours are actually being used for charging,” the presenter said, explaining the three-hour limit is intended to maximize access to chargers.
The ordinance (amending section 74.03 of the village code) was discussed briefly at a prior committee and was presented to the full board before a vote. Trustees moved, seconded and approved the ordinance by roll call.
What to expect: The new restriction will apply to village-owned parking lots with EV charging spaces and is intended to reduce non-charging occupation of those stalls; the board also approved language to prohibit overnight parking in those spaces.
